What's New in Your Pantry? Lavender balsamic vinegar!
From Connie, in Rhode Island:
There's a lovely little olive oil/balsamic vinegar tasting shop, Olive del Mondo, on Hope Street in Providence, diagonally across from Seven Stars Bakery. They have a wonderful selection and a knowledgeable, friendly staff. Here you see Traditional Balsamic Vinegar, with white truffle oil on the left, and Tuscan Herb olive oil. My favorite, my special treat, is front and center: Lavender Balsamic. Heavenly. Especially on sliced fresh strawberries.
[Lydia's note] Okay, Connie, you got me. Lavender balsamic?! Until I get a bottle for my own pantry, I can only imagine how amazing this tastes and smells. I love the idea of drizzling it on strawberries. Readers, do you have this in your pantry? How do you use it? Here are some recipes I think would adapt well to lavender balsamic:
Lavendar honey chicken, from Inspired Taste
Farmhouse dark chocolate truffles, from Napa Farmhouse 1885
Watermelon radish, fennel and mint salad with lavender vinaigrette, from Amy Glaze's Pommes d'Amour

WHAT'S NEW IN YOUR PANTRY?
- Find something in your pantry, fridge or freezer, cupboards, or kitchen that wasn't there 10 years ago. Maybe it's a spice or condiment you use now that you didn't know existed back then. Maybe it's a new version of something you've always had (a different brand of soy sauce or olive oil?). Or, maybe it's a tool or utensil that's essential to the way you cook today. Maybe it's something you discovered here on The Perfect Pantry! If you haven't had your own kitchen for 10 years, find something you have now that you didn't have a year ago.
- Snap a photo, quick and easy with your smartphone!
- Email the photo to me: [email protected].
- Include your name, and where your pantry is located (city, or state, or country).
- Make sure to say what the pantry item is (especially if your photo has more than one thing in it), and include a sentence or two about why it's in your pantry.
You may send as many photos as you like, whenever you like. Please send each photo in its own email (easy to do from your smartphone), with your name on each one. Send one photo, ten photos, or more. I have tons of things in my pantry now that weren't there 10 years ago.
***You may send any item, food or nonfood, from your pantry/kitchen. If you send a photo of a food ingredient I don't have, I will try to get it and create a recipe with it.
I'm looking forward to sharing your photos, so snap a shot and email to me:
Thanks!

Our first experience with the oil and vinegar shops was at the Reading Market, Philadelphia. We came home with chocolate balsamic! Much loved by my husband, and not easily sourced close to home. He used it up on salads, and the 'next best' wasn't as good. Still looking, trying.
Lavender sounds daring, though there's tradition behind it. Add that to the 'looking' list.
Susan G., I love the idea of chocolate balsamic. It would most probably be another case of by it for myself; I'm quite sure my better half would not indulge. I'll be on the look-out. Perhaps my locl vendor carries it!
Lydia, I'm enthralled with the recipes you shared and will be checking them out.
Thank you.
