Cinnamon: like or dislike?
Welcome to Like or Dislike, where you get to share how you really feel about ingredients from the pantry, ingredients I'm thinking about adding to my pantry, other seasonal foods, even favorite cooking gear. The things you like are sure to find their way to the recipes here on The Perfect Pantry, so do tell.
Ah, the aroma of cinnamon. Can there be winter holidays without it? In everything from mulled wine, to spice cakes, to beef stew (yes, really!), the scent of cinnamon evokes snowy days, nights in front of the fireplace, and gatherings of family and friends. Cinnamon is considered a "warm" spice, but really good cinnamon has a bit of a peppery undertone. Do you remember the difference between cinnamon and cassia? (Hint: it's all in the quills.) Which do you prefer?

LIKE....in a big way! So useful in many dishes.
I do like cinnamon quite a bit. I'm especially fond of Cinnamon Bears, which of course I hardly ever eat any more. But I love the spice to use in foods too. (My sister Laurel is allergic to it, which is so sad because so many spice blends contain cinnamon!)
A hearty LIKE ... among other things, I spoon some into the grinds for my morning coffee every day.
Like. Definitely like. I even like it with meat in a Greek style beef stew!
Like--light in drinks, heavy on coffee cakes and sweets.
Like! Especially small amounts on butternut squash.
I like it in both cooking and baking, the latter, combined with cardamom, is unbeatable. Ah, the aroma!
I LOVE cinnamon! I start each day with cinnamon in my coffee and will add it to anything that makes sense to me.
I love it and learned the difference between cinnamon and cassia from the Penzey's catalogue, a wonderful resource. I especially like the combo of cinnamon and chili in Mexican food.
I too put in on my coffee grounds, but just sprinkle it on--supposed to be good for regulating blood sugar, but I'm sure I do not ingest enough for results. Ton ingest cinnamon without sugar......
Lovely stuff, no doubt! The most aromatic cinnamon I have had is from Oregon's Wild Harvest, organic Cinnamomum verum. Savory, sweet... mmmm!
Like, especially cooking in an apple pie!
This season of the year? Both. I love the flavor of cinnamon year round -- both in sweet and savory dishes. But this season of the year we are attacked as we enter the grocery stores by those aggressively scented cinnamon brooms and other seasonal crimes! But, now that you mention cinnamon, tonight might be a good night for turning some ground turkey into something that resembles a bastilla. Cinnamon, ground turkey, almonds, maybe in phyllo? Yummy!
Like - but in small quantities. I find the taste of cinnamon quite overpowering and use it sparingly.
Cinnamon is usually a savory dish ingredient in India, added as tempering to pulao and curries. And of course, it's an essential component of the spice blend garam masala.
Love it! From the scent to the flavor. For me, it's hard to put too much cinnamon in anything.
Like.
Cinnamon on French toast is comfort food for me.
Hard to imagine anyone not liking it. I use in so many dishes, both sweet and savory. Have whenever make oatmeal. That and the brown sugar make it so tasty.
Love it!
I love cinnamon and lucky I live in Hawaii! Adaptations, Inc. runs a 100% certified organic farm on the big Island of Hawaii in Kailua-Kona (Grown in Hawaii, U.S.A.) which has a commercial stand of Ceylon cinnamon trees (True Cinnamon) which they harvest under the name of Oceanfire Cinnamon. Nothing excites your taste buds and brightens up your recipe more than 100% certified organic True Cinnamon just harvested, dried and ready for use in the recipes.
I love cinnamon. But since I always buy just super market cinnamon I think I have always had cassia and not true cinnamon.
Love cinnamon. I always use a little cinnamon in my cupcake recipes if i can
Gee whiz, how i missed this post, i have no idea. Oh, wait. It's the holiday season LOL ....hope my vote isn't too late
Like, love, adore cinnamon--the "real" kind. I use it more in savory dishes than desserty dishes since i'm not normal (according to family) for not being born with the sweet tooth gene HAHA
Several, i notice, use it in their coffee. Will have to try that! Thanks for sharing that!
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
I love Cinnamon on my freshly made cappuccino. And oh yes Cinnamon buns go well with that too.
