Candy canes: like or dislike?
Welcome to Like or Dislike, where you get to share how you really feel about ingredients from the pantry, ingredients I'm thinking about adding to my pantry, other seasonal foods, even favorite cooking gear. The things you like are sure to find their way to the recipes here on The Perfect Pantry, so do tell.
Candy canes. The ultimate stocking stuffers and tree ornaments. Do you chew them, crush them, suck on them? Do you buy the small ones in strips, or the large ones that last a week? Candy canes weren't part of my childhood -- we went more for chocolate Chanukah "gelt" -- but I love to decorate holiday gifts and fill our grandkids' stockings with them. Offer me a mug of steaming hot cocoa with a candy cane stirrer on a cold winter night, and I'm a happy camper. Do candy canes bring back childhood memories for you? Are they part of your holiday tradition?

Ah yes, I live in Holland and we get smallish candy canes in the shops these days. They look good but do not taste of anything but bland sugar.
I did get them from England once and these were peppermint flavored. Those I liked very much!
Seasons greetings!

Best peppermint memories: My mother's Christmas treat was home made peppermint ice cream. She crushed a cooking grade stick that was softer than the decorative canes and about two inches around. I never eat the canes that I use for decorations, though.
I will have one green and one red cane and that is enough for me.
I like!!!
I have tried sometimes a slightly lemon flavoured and loved it!!
I grew up with them hung in the tree, placed in our stockings, and the chained ones from school parties. They were sucked on to create that perfect point. They were put in mouth sideways (small ones of course) to see how long it would take for my folks to notice, which was too soon in my book. They are a sweet spot in my mind. Sadly my kids are not as "adventure minded" as I. They'd rather have chocolates.
I don't know if I feel strongly enough to say dislike, but candy canes don't especially turn me on either. It's not something I would ever choose if I had a bunch of Christmas candy in front of me, that's for sure!
I pass these up every time, even crushed over anything. Not a mint lover. As far as hot chocolate goes, I'd rather stir it with a cinnamon stick.
I like a small one to stir hot cocoa once a year. I also like them crushed, sticking to cookies dipped in white or dark chocolate. Best of all, they make great tea! Happy day, Lydia!
Candy canes say Christmas. I use to put them on the tree, now I put them the table. I love them.
Candy canes are great! I love only the mint ones... (this year they were hard to find... Jolly Rancher?... no thanks!) I like to put them on the tree and I like to crush them into my baking. That reminds me, I want to make super dark chocolate and peppermint bark... Off to bake!
I love them, from the traditional to the "other" flavors. No one else really likes them, so I stopped buying them.
I can take them or leave them. Really like looking at them more than eating. But I'm not a lover of hard candies. Give me a chocolate or something soft and I'm happy. So candy canes in the pantry don't tempt me at all.
For me, if candy is not chocolate or doesn't at least contain a significant amount of chocolate, I'm not interested. And, I don't like hard candy in general.
I love the look of candy canes but hate the taste of them. Petrified toothpaste. Although, I have had the ones that are half dipped in chocolate and hot cinnamon flavored and they're very good. They're just so pretty! I buy them after Christmas, turn two inwards so the "hook" parts are facing each other and filled them with melting chocolate and add a stick. Perfect heart shaped chocolate filled suckers.
Candy Canes I like since they are only around during Christmas.
I TRY TO AVOID SUGAR SO I WOULD BE IN A DON"T LIKE HERE>
HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND BEST WISHED FOR A MARVY NEW YEAR!
WITH LOVE
I like candy canes more for decorating packages and bags, using them in decorating the home and office, putting on the tree and using them in children's crafts than the taste now. They used to taste so much stronger! But they're still quite tasty as a stir stick in a cup of tea ;0) I like the softer candy cane sticks as well, but, they don't taste much like peppermint anymore either. Sad, sad, sad
Hot Chocolate with a Candy Cane Stirrer! At least once during the season!
