If I remember right, there is not any type of aquatic animal used in the making of fish sauce. It has been years since I have used fish sauce in my cooking. I guess the reason why I no longer use the fish sauce is because I am older now and and try to do the least amount of cooking as possible.
Anchovies! And yes, I have this brand!
Karen
I've had mine for years. Keep it in the fridge; have no idea if it is a good brand or not. My first thought was anchovies, but 2nd guessed myself & cannot thinkof another answer
I would say Anchovies, and I do love fish sauce. I buy Three Crabs but also recently bought some Red Boat Fish Sauce, which is divine.
herring, and yep got it in the fridge
Anchovies... in my vegetarian home, I have vegetarian fish sauce, which is very tasty. Ironically, my husband brought some fish sauce back from Vietnam in 1967; that was preveg, but also pre-knowing anything about SE Asian cooking, so we gave it away to a friend. I hope she used it!
anchovies? brine shrimp? herring?
I'll eat them all.
I was pretty sure it was anchovies and checked on your blog! Yes, I was right!
Yes I do have it in my pantry!
Anchovies

Anchovies - and you bet I've got fish sauce (and regular ol' anchovies) in my pantry!
Anchovies. I always have Tiparos brand fish sauce in my pantry. One bottle open and one on deck.
