I don't think my 4 year old nephew and 2 year old niece have ever had (or even seen) Indian Pudding at Thanksgiving. It's time for Aunt Nancy to make them proper New Englanders.
Definitely cornmeal and molasses. I like both of them but hate Indian pudding. Always wondered how it (and my ancestors) survived.
I know it's cornmeal and molasses, but i've also seen recipes with a pinch of cinamon. Curry's a possibility as well, I suppose... it would balance well with the molasses, I will bet.
All but curry powder would be my guess. I have not made this from scratch, but loved the one my husband used to sell. Cross & Blakewell, perhaps? It came in a can.
I feel an urge coming on to try it at home. Maybe next November 13, National Indian Pudding Day?
I'm pretty sure about the cornmeal and molasses...I'm wondering about the cinnamon, and how available it might be ...hmmm. I'm going to say just cornmeal and molasses. I have both in my pantry.
It's been sooo many years since I've had it, but I do believe that it's cornmeal and molasses.
I may just have to try Tammy's version.

The recipe I use, "Sioux Indian Pudding," has cornmeal, molasses, cinnamon and ginger, and it's delicious.

Molasses, cinnamon and cornmeal. Yes to all three in my pantry. Sure wish you would do another series of "Other People's Panty" That was such a fun feature. I bet lots would send in their photos!
Cornmeal, molasses and cinnamon are commonly used. I have not seen a recipe that calls for curry powder, but perhaps a pinch of that would offer a touch of warmth and a slight edge.
Truly I have no idea, but I remember when I went to Boston Elise told me I should be sure to try this. Never did though!

My mom always made Indian Pudding in a wide bean pot (or what she called a bean pot). I never saw her use that dish any other time of the year but Thanksgiving.
Cornmeal and molasses for sure, not sure about cinnamon.
Cornmeal and molasses. I don't think the early European settlers had cinnamon.
