The Pantry Quiz #29

The Pantry Quiz.

What is it?

Gross as it sounds, you've probably eaten and loved this fairly common ingredient. What is red algae from the Porphyra genus?

__________

Please leave your answer in the comments, and let us know whether you have this ingredient in your pantry.

[Last week's answer: Star anise isn't one of the seven spices in Japanese seven-spice powder. All of the others on the list are in the mix.]

i don't have it in my pantry and i don't like algae, but i love sushi!

have a nice weekend!

Nori? I do have sheets of nori in my pantry, along with a long-standing ambition to make gimbap.

Nori for sure. I am a real sushi "laver"!

Nori. Not being a fan of it, I don't have any.

yes, nori for sure, also another type of red algae "Irish Moss" is used to thicken ice cream

Nori - but I totally cheated (I mean, "researched") and looked it up on your blog. I do have it in my pantry, although I think I have only used it once.

Nori for sure-i! I have sheets and the little Korean rice grabbers, as well as the desire to make gimbap -- thanks for the reminder, Nupur!

Nori, and mine is in my fridge.
I keep making a roll or two at a time and it takes a while to use the whole thing up.

Cousin Martin, you're a hoot!

Mmmm. I have toasted and salted nori. I love taking sheets of it and picking up rice with it. I started buying it after eating it at a Korean friend's house. Mmmmm.
