The Pantry Quiz #21
Multiple choice
Some powerful aphrodisiac foods reside in your pantry. We all know that chocolate, cinnamon, saffron and honey can stir the passions. All but one of the pantry ingredients listed below also are considered to be aphrodisiacs. Which one is the downer?
1. Almonds
2. Pistachio nuts
3. Garlic
4. Nutmeg
5. Black beans
Please leave your answer in the comments, and let us know whether you have this ingredient in your pantry.
[Last week's answer: Cilantro, coriander and Chinese parsley are different names for the same herb. Culantro is a different plant.]

Hard as it is to believe, Pistachio nuts are not considered an aphrodisiac but garlic is! I love pistachio ice cream but find that garlic and I share no love. Good luck digging out from the blizzard, Lydia!

Good one! And I have absolutely no idea what the answer is.

I would say black beans but I could be wrong. And I guess it all depends upon who serves them to me ;-)

I'm guessing black beans, for obvious reasons, and yes, I have some in my pantry.

I have just enjoyed following the trail of aphrodisiacs through the Perfect Pantry, and -- why not? -- Cousin Martin knows!
Romantic memory: 1966, I was engaged and he was hundreds of miles away. I sent him a birthday present: La Cuisine Exotique, Insolite, Erotique. Even though we've never cooked a single recipe, it seems to have worked!

I found a surprise -- aphrodisiac gazpacho on the Perfect Pantry: http://www.theperfectpantry.com/2009/09/dried-black-beans-recipe-gazpacho-gluten-free.html. Winter version?

Lydia,
My son guesses black beans. I'm stumped, so I'll go with him. He was right about maple syrup.

Hmmm, I'm guessing black beans, but your quizzes are often full of surprises, Lydia! ;-)

I'm guessing black beans - they seem heavy and a little hard on the digestive system....

my gut instinct says garlic but I am going to go out on a limb here and actually say Almonds! good "stumper" this week!
(funny enough I had no idea the cinnamon and honey were aphrodisiacs but have been including them in my husband's morning berry smoothie for years, hmmmm)
