The Pantry Quiz #20
Multiple choice
One of these things is not like the others. Which is the odd herb out?
1. Cilantro
2. Culantro
3. Coriander
4. Chinese parsley
Please leave your answer in the comments, and let us know whether you have this ingredient in your pantry.
[Last week's answer: Turmeric, saffron and annatto will turn food a bright gold color without a strong flavor. Mustard seed leaves a golden tinge, too, but the flavor is strong.]

Culantro is the odd herb out, and I don't have it in my pantry. I do, however, love cilantro and always have that on hand!

I say odd man out might be coriander as in our culture, that is the seed of the culantro/cilantro/chinese parsley leafy herb. Fun!

I'm going with culantro, because I've never heard of it, and I thought that #1, 3, and 4 were the same thing.

Culantro is the oddball; I use it occasionally when making recaito, but it's not that easy to find in markets.

Is Culantro real? I have never heard of it -- must google now....

I'm with Carol (except I've heard of culantro), I looked for information. What I found (http://www.ehow.com/info_8528643_cilantro-vs-culantro.html) seems to say that they all have some things in common, depending on what qualifications you set! Greens, except coriander seed; same plant (except culantro); in the carrot family (all). So there, Pantry Queen!
Or, if we take the word 'herb' in the question, the seed would be 'out' -- it's not a green, ie not an herb.

Culantro is the odd one. It's not easy to find and I don't have it. I nearly always have cilantro.

I know this one is culantro, but I have never even tasted it! Need to go to South America I think.

Culantro is used in authentic Cuban cooking. Cubans do not use cilantro they use culantro in cooking cuban food. Its a staple herb in Cuban kitchens
